Susan Faye Roop, 29 years old, disappeared from her home in Bentree, West Virginia, on February 12, 1979. On that day, Susan left a note for her three children, instructing them to go to a neighbor's house if she wasn’t home by the time they returned from school. She was last seen getting into a dark-colored vehicle, possibly a truck with a camper top or a van, around 8:30 a.m. that morning. After that, Susan vanished without a trace and has not been heard from since.

At the time of her disappearance, Susan was navigating significant life challenges, including a difficult divorce and custody battles. She had recently been awarded custody of her children and was expecting a sum of money from the sale of property. Despite these hardships, Susan had remained positive and hopeful for a fresh start. She was also planning to confront someone who had forged checks from her bank account, but her sudden disappearance left many unanswered questions.

In the years that followed, suspicion grew around Susan’s ex-husband, Raymond Roop, who had picked up their children the weekend before she went missing. Raymond later told their children that their mother had abandoned them. In 2017, Raymond’s former wife came forward with claims that Raymond had confessed to murdering Susan back in 1980. However, no charges have ever been filed against Raymond, and his involvement remains unclear.

In 2016, human remains were found near Kanawha Falls in Fayette County, and authorities briefly considered the possibility that they belonged to Susan. However, DNA testing revealed that the remains were from multiple individuals and were determined to be hundreds of years old, ruling out the possibility that they were connected to her case.

Susan’s disappearance remains a mystery, and her case is still open.
