Sheila was last observed leaving her home in the 1400 block of Kanawha Street around 3:30 p.m. that day. She was supposed to walk to the downtown area but never arrived and has not been heard from since. Despite various leads and investigations, her case remains unsolved, and Sheila has been missing for over 40 years.

In the years following her disappearance, serial killer Henry Lee Lucas confessed to murdering Sheila. However, it was later determined that Lucas had made numerous false confessions, many of which were later proven to be fabrications. His unreliable statements have left Sheila’s case unresolved.
